Take your roller blind down, re-tension its spring by hand, then rehang and test it until it holds properly.
AB-01Work out what's wrongIf the blind won't stay up and slides back down, the spring has too little tension. If it snaps up hard or shoots up on its own, it has too much. Look at the two ends of the roller tube: one end has a round pin, the other has a flat spigot that clicks into a slotted bracket. The spring mechanism sits inside the flat-end side.
AB-02Clear the areaPull the blind fully down. Move any furniture, ornaments or plants sitting below the window out of the way. Lay a dust sheet on the windowsill or floor in case the blind is dusty.
AB-03Take the blind out of its bracketsSupport the roller with both hands. Push the flat spigot end sideways to compress it against its spring, then lift it out of the bracket slot. Drop the round pin end down out of its bracket. Carry the whole blind to a table or worktop and lay it flat.
AB-04Re-tension the spring by handFor too little tension, hold the tube still and roll the fabric onto it by hand, keeping it taut, for 3 to 4 full turns in the direction it normally winds up. For too much tension, unroll the fabric by hand 3 to 4 turns the other way instead. Only turn a little at a time — the spring inside does the rest.
AB-05Rehang the blindLift the blind back up to the brackets. Slot the round pin end into its bracket first, then push the flat spigot end sideways to compress it and click it into its slot. Give the roller a gentle pull to check both ends are properly seated.
AB-06Test and fine-tunePull the blind down about halfway and let go. It should rise smoothly and stay put wherever you release it. If it's still too loose, take it down and add one or two more turns. If it's still too tight, take it down and remove a turn. Test again after each small change.
AB-07Tidy upWipe down the blind fabric and the windowsill with a soft cloth. Fold away the dust sheet. Give the blind a final up-and-down test to make sure it's holding tension properly before leaving it.
