SS-02Check for cables and pipes before drillingCables and pipes can run almost anywhere, even in an outside wall, so run a detector over every marked point first. Detectors miss cables that are deep, in metal conduit, or outside the usual safe zones, so still treat the wall as live until you prove otherwise with a slow pilot hole. Find your stopcock now, usually under the kitchen sink, and check it turns freely so you can shut the water off fast if you hit a pipe. If you have any doubt, isolate the relevant circuit at the consumer unit before drilling, and turn the water off at the stopcock before going any deeper.
