Fit a new internal door — trimmed to size, hinged, hung and latched, with even gaps all round.
ID-01Measure the frame and choose the doorMeasure the frame's height and width in three places each. Buy the nearest standard size up, and check which way the door should swing.
1 each · Internal door 762×1981mm ID-02Trim the door to sizePlane equal amounts off both stiles, aiming for a 2–3mm gap at sides and top and 6–8mm at the floor. Take no more than 10mm total off any edge.
ID-03Cut in the hingesMark hinge positions 150mm from the top and 225mm from the bottom, chisel out recesses one leaf-thickness deep, and fit 3 hinges for fire doors or heavy hardwood.
RULESID-04Hang and adjustScrew hinges to the door first, then wedge it in the opening and fix to the frame with one screw per hinge. Test the swing before driving the rest.
ID-05Fit the latch and handlesDrill the latch mortice at handle height (usually 990mm), chisel in the faceplate and keep the spindle level. Fit the strike plate last.
