Replace worn oven door hinges safely, unplugging the appliance first, to fix a door that won't close properly or hangs unevenly.
OH-01Make the oven safeUnplug the oven from its socket, or switch it off at the isolator or consumer unit if it's wired in directly. Let it cool fully if it's been used recently — the door and glass can stay hot for over an hour. Clear a table or worktop nearby and cover it with an old towel to rest the door on.

Flip both clips down to lock the hinges in place — this stops them snapping shut suddenly. Close the door to about 45°, then lift it straight up and off the hinge arms.
OH-03Get to the hinge fixingsMost oven hinges are bolted to the front frame of the cabinet, not the door. Check your manual, but you'll usually see two screws or bolts holding each hinge in place once the door is off. On some models the hinge assembly runs up inside the door, so you'll need to undo the screws around the door edge and lift the inner glass panel away first.

Undo the fixing screws or bolts and ease the hinge out slowly, keeping control of the spring arm the whole time. Note which way round each one sits, as left and right hinges are usually not interchangeable.
OH-05Fit the new hingesBuy hinges that match your oven's exact make and model — generic hinges rarely fit properly. Fit the new hinge into the same spot, keeping the spring arm under control as you compress it back into position. Tighten the screws or bolts fully, then repeat on the other side.

OH-07Test and tidy upOpen and close the door several times, checking it seals evenly all round with no gaps or rubbing. Wipe down the door and hinge area with a damp cloth and dispose of the old hinges safely. Plug the oven back in or switch the isolator on, and run a short test heat to check everything works normally.
