TB-03Check for pipes and cables, and know your stopcockRun your detector over the marked spot, but don't trust it completely — detectors miss cables that are deep, in metal conduit, or behind metal-backed board, and they get confused by metal stud frames. Before you drill, find your stopcock (usually under the kitchen sink) and check it turns, so you can shut the water off fast if you hit a pipe. If there's any doubt, isolate the electrics at the consumer unit before drilling, and turn off the water at the stopcock before cutting into anything that could carry water.
