CT-03Check for hidden cables and pipes before you drillCables and pipes can run almost anywhere, not just in the usual safe zones, so scan every marked point with a cable and pipe detector first. Still treat the wall as if something is there, since detectors miss cables that are deep, in metal conduit, behind metal-backed plasterboard, or outside the safe zones, and metal stud frames confuse cheap detectors further. Find your stopcock now, usually under the kitchen sink, and check it turns freely so you can shut the water off fast if you hit a pipe. If you have any doubt at all, isolate the circuit at the consumer unit before drilling, and turn off the water at the stopcock before cutting into anything that could carry water.
