CP-05Check for hidden pipes and cables before you drillCables and pipes can run almost anywhere in a wall, not just in the 'safe zones'. Use your detector, but still assume something might be there and drill carefully to prove it isn't — detectors miss deep cables, cables in metal conduit, anything behind metal-backed plasterboard, and they're less reliable near a metal stud frame. Before you drill, find your stopcock (usually under the kitchen sink) and check it turns, so you can shut off the water fast if you hit a pipe. If you have any doubt at all, isolate the circuit at the consumer unit first.
