BS-03Check your stopcock and think about safety before you drillFind your stopcock now, usually under the kitchen sink, and check it turns freely so you can shut the water off fast if you hit a pipe. Run a cable and pipe detector over your marks, but still expect something to be there and prove otherwise - detectors miss cables in metal conduit, behind metal-backed board, or outside the normal safe zones, and metal stud frames confuse cheap detectors further. If you have any doubt at all, isolate the circuit at the consumer unit before drilling, and turn the water off at the stopcock before cutting into anything that could carry water.
