CT-03Check for cables and pipes before drillingCables and pipes can run inside a ceiling void almost anywhere, especially if there's a bathroom, ensuite or loft wiring above - a detector can still miss cables that are deep, in metal conduit, or behind metal-backed board. Find your stopcock, usually under the kitchen sink, and check it turns before you start, so you can shut the water off fast if you hit a pipe. If you have any real doubt about what's behind the ceiling, isolate the relevant circuit at the consumer unit before drilling, and turn off the water at the stopcock before cutting into anything that could carry it.
