CP-04Check for cables, pipes, studs, and know your stopcockRun a cable and pipe detector over every mark before you drill. Detectors miss things, so still treat every hole as if something could be there — avoid drilling straight above sockets and switches, and drill slowly, stopping the moment you feel resistance or see dust colour change. Before you start, find your stopcock (usually under the kitchen sink) and check it turns, so you can shut off the water fast if you hit a pipe. If you have any doubt at all, isolate the relevant circuit at the consumer unit before drilling near it, and don't cut or drill deeper than needed.
